Effie Halivopoulou has been working on biotechnology and biopolitics issues for the past ten years. Her installations and videos were presented at the Biennale 1 - Public Screen (2007), Center of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki (2002 and 2006), at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (2002 and 2005), the Hellenic Museum in Chicago (2005), the Biennale BIDA 2005, Las Atarazanas Reales, Seville, Spain, at the Averoff Foundation, Metsovo (2002), at the Foundation for Hellenic Culture of New York and Berlin (2000-1999), at the Riverside Studios, London (2000), at the Grimaldis Gallery (1999 and 2009) Baltimore, at the Kettle's Yard (1992), England, as well as in solo exhibitions at the Zina Athanassiadou Gallery (1994 and 2002), Thessaloniki, Batagianni Gallery (2002 and 2007), Athens, Ekfrasi Gallery (2009), Athens, Artbeat Gallery (2008), Brussels, and Galeria San Nicolo (1997), at the Venice Biennale.Effie Halivopoulou is the Coordinator of the Visual Arts Program at Deree- The American College of Greece, Athens. She taught Visual Perception at the New School for Social Research (New York, 1989-91). She was a Teacher's Assistant at Pratt Institute (New York, 1986-87), a lecturer at numerous institutions such as: The State Museum of Contemporary Art (Thessaloniki, 2007), Pratt Institute (New York, 1993), Athens College (1992), and The German School Athens (1991). She has curated the exhibitions "RoomsToLet" at Action Field Kodra (Thessaloniki, 2005/2006/2007/2008), "Synchronia" ,International Art Symposium (Crete, 1992). She was the Assistant Curator at Borgenicht Gallery (New York, 1988-89).
Effie Halivopoulou's work is owned by private collections in New York, Baltimore, Melbourne, Brussels, London, Tel Aviv, Athens and Thessaloniki, and by the American College of Greece, Desmos, Portalakis, and Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art collections.
