Handcrafted and industrial objects that belong to the Frances Rich personal collection have been selected for a presentation in the video. All objects possess characteristics that place them somewhere between art and non-art, utilitarian and decorative, precious non-precious, personal and public.
The narrative in the video consists of small observations of the relationships of things and people of different generations. Technology is introduced in a number of appliances and infuses things with a special ability they didn’t have before. The Internet of Things (IoT) represents a tangible world with the power of infinite potentialities of interconnectivity. The idea behind the IoT is to introduce a social facilitator, that is “an entity” that foresees and provides for any human need imaginable. Τhe two-channel installation is a contemplative approach to things and data and their inherent obsolescence.
